Axis ADU is a 1,200 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit in Los Angeles, California. With two stories, two bedrooms, and two baths, the ADU serves as an expansive guest house and pool cabana. The design is arranged around a central axis, which fluidly connects the ADU entryway to the pool terrace, giving direct access to the pool lounge and hot tub. A dramatic roofline of Bermuda-inspired concrete roofing materials bookends the central axis and creates a shaded central courtyard.

Located on a steep hillside site, the massing of the ADU cascades downward following the slope, creating a series of intricately interconnected interior spaces. The cascading form features a stepped foundation which reduces excavation depth and saves cost and results in a an architecture that responds to the shifts in natural topography.
