Cedar Spa + Guest House Addition
Cedar Spa and Guest House is a 600 square foot addition to an existing single-family residence in Los Angeles, California. The project acts as a private space for wellness – with a separate entrance, reflective privacy windows, and lush perimeter landscaping – the seclusion offers a perfect retreat. The architecture of the addition, with cedar wood cladding, harmonizes with the architecture of the existing house by opting for similar finishes and fixtures.
Although the project is only 600 square feet, the project features a very high level of attention to detail that maximizes its small footprint. With an eye towards the future, the space can be reconfigured from a massage and wellness room into a guest bedroom, by incorporating removable panels that hide plumbing hookups and electrical/TV hookups to facilitate easy changes of use. The project features high-end lighting fixtures and luxury oil-rubbed bronze HVAC linear diffusers, allowing the room to have a very light touch, and centering the focus of room to be on quietness and relaxation.
The bathroom is equipped with a linen closet that can transition from storing towels (as a wellness spa) to a wardrobe storing clothing (for any future guests as a guest house). A custom stone vanity matches the stonework found throughout
the rest of the property. The shower enclosure doubles as a steam shower and features a custom glass door designed to retain steam for an optimal experience and heightened relaxation.
This project was completed with Scott Mitchell Studio and Fort Hill Construction – major thanks to all of the collaborators who made this project come together.
